Shinsaibashi (???) is a district in the Ch??-Ku district of Osaka, Japan and the main shopping area of the city. It focuses around Shinsaibashi-suji, covered shopping street, which is north of D? Tonbori suji and the parallel street and east of Mido. Associated with Shinsaibashi, and west of Mido-suji street is Amerika-mura, an American themed shopping area and a center of youth culture in Osaka. History
Like many place names in Osaka, Shinsaibashi shopping district is named after one of the many "Machi-bashi (bridge of the city) that were constructed and operated by local merchants. Shinsaibashi was a very dear, a historic bridge spanning the canal Nagahori-gawa.
